This is a very simplest method to resize your partition or hard drive without formatting, you do not need any third party software too. You might be thinking this is possible by Shrinking and Extending volume in disk management but even there is a limitation to it.
As you can only extend volume with unallocated space that is located to its right, take for example. You have C drive and D drive, you have ample amount of space in D drive so to allocate some memory to your C drive and when you shrink a amount of memory from D drive, it unallocates them aside but when you right click your C:\ Volume to consume unallocated space you will find the extend volume option is grayed out.
So as said earlier you can extend volume with unallocated space that is located to its right, so in above example you can extend your D: drive back again to its original volume or other you can create a new volume with the free space available.
But yet there are possibilities where you can add more space to your C: drive, this is likely done by deleting a volume, this will unallocate the space which leaves window with no option to let user select Extend volume preference.
Follow this steps,
5. Now you will get the Extend Volume option available when right clicked on C drive. Give number of memory that you want it from D drive.
Note: Don't forget to back up your content from the drive before deleting the volume or partition, so you do not lose any data.

Follow this steps,
- First open your Disk Management, click on start then right-click Computer and select Manage and from the left pane, under storage click on Disk Management.
- If you are allocating space from D drive to C drive, you should delete your D drive volume. Don't forget to back up your content from D drive to any other drives.
- Now, Right click on D drive volume from disk management and select Delete volume. When you delete the volume, it doesn't unallocates space but just free up space with green bar at top of the partition. (If it is unallocated, with black bar at the top then go to step 5)
- If you see green bar at top of the volume after deleting the volume, right click on it and select delete partition, this will unallocate the partition.
5. Now you will get the Extend Volume option available when right clicked on C drive. Give number of memory that you want it from D drive.
