Use program compatibility to run older program

Sometime it happens like; when you try running a program it throw you an error saying the operating system you are using is not supported or the version is not supportable. It happens when you try running a program which was likely made for window XP operating system in window 7.

Using program compatibility will let you test your program in different environments. Some program work perfectly fine except some other programs which are written specifically for an earlier version of windows.

Using program compatibility utility.

Go to control panel, and then click on programs, beneath Programs and Features click on 'Run program made for previous version of windows'; or other you can initiate this utility by right clicking on the program which is having problem and select program compatibility.

Click on Next, It will list your program.

If do not see your program on that window, then select 'Not Listed' the first option and click on Next.

Give path to the program from where you finding difficulty, you can browse through window and then click Next.

You can go with either of the option given, i am choosing recommended setting.

Then it will apply new setting for your program to fix its issue, click on 'Start the program' to find if it has fixed its issue or not. Click on Next.

If you find that the program is running fine now, you can save the setting. Henceforth it will run the program with that applied setting and also use the chosen compatibility mode. If not, try different setting option.

When opted to try with different setting, the utility will prompt you set of question to determine exact problem with the program.

Depending on the option selected it will take you further.

Now again it is trying to apply new setting, i will run the program again to see if it's working or not and click on Next to continue.

If second option also fails, then you can report it to Microsoft. It will generate a program and let you send it to them.

If a problem is persisting, you can visit software vendor's website and look for latest update of the program or other create virtual machine for the compatibility.

* Certain program like Antivirus/Spyware program, disk partitioning program should not attempt to run in compatibility mode, this program have access to your system files changes made on this will damage your OS it will cause your computer to be down. And you might have to reinstall the operating system and also your data or files may get loss.
