Previous article of mine was on No Connectivity with Valid IP Address. Well now i will write on No Connectivity with Invalid IP Address. Instead of Complaining to network provider first try doing this simple basic steps which is easy to follow & help you get your connection back.
1) Well First you should see what kind of Connection you got.
- Check if its wired connection or wireless.
- Check if there is a router connected in between the modem & PC.
- If there is a router in between the PC & modem then you should connect the PC to the modem directly.
If these doesn't work out then follow these steps.
2) Check IP address (Internet Protocol Address)
- Click Start.
- All Programs.
- Accessories.
- Right Click on Command Prompt.
- Run as administrator and continue.
- Now type 'ipconfig' and press enter (Type this without Single Quote)
If you see IPv4 address as 169.254.X.X then continue with these steps.
- Turn of PC & Modem.
- Unplug power cables from PC & Modem.
- Press reset button on modem for 30 seconds this drains out the excess power from modem.
- Hold down the power button on PC for 30 seconds again without the power supply cord attached. This does the same work.
- Turn on Modem, Wait for all the lights to be solid. (All these steps are called power cycling)
- Once all the lights are solid turn on PC.
- Check the IP address again.
- If you get a valid IP try open IE or any Browser & browse the internet.
- If still there is invalid IP then there is simple way to release & renew your IP address
- If IP address is assigned by DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) then go to start and type Run in search bar. Run Window will appear, type cmd in it & press ok. Or type cmd in search bar and then right click on cmd and go with Run as administrator. Click on continue if it asks.
- Now to Release your IP address type 'ipconfig /release' after typing you should renew it too and that could happen by typing 'ipconfig /renew' (Note: There is a space after ipconfig and type without Single Quote)
- And now will Flush DNS also, Type 'ipconfig /flushdns' (Note: There is a space after ipconfig and type without Single Quote)
- If your still unable to connect to internet then check whether your Network card is fine or not.
- After doing the entire test, you are still not connected then there would be a problem with the network provider.
