How to detect pen drive in Virtual Machine

Sometime we want to use certain feature of window XP in window 7 and it is possible by virtual machine. So to take some files from window 7 to XP(Virtual Machine) we will require pen drive to work on it, your pen drive will not be detected soon after installing virtual machine on your PC. So here is how you can get it going.

When you will reach to desktop in virtual machine you will see 3 menu at top of bar, you must click on Tools and then select the option Install Integration Components.

When clicked on Install Integration Components, it will prompt you to click on continue, hit the 'continue' button then a wizard will pop up to install the features you can hit 'Next'.

It will upload the components, this will take few seconds. Once it is done hit the 'Finish' button to complete the setup.
After completing the setup it is necessary to restart your virtual machine(No need to restart your computer) so to enable the features on machine.

  • Now you will see a new menu on top 'USB'.
  • Attach your pen drive on your system unit and then you will see name with Attach word on USB menu. Click on it to get your pen drive working on virtual machine.

And finally you will get it working.

Note:

  • Every time you attach pen drive you will have to manually attach it from USB menu at top bar or other it won't detect.
  • You can Eject the pen drive either by usual removal by clicking on the USB icon at notification area and selecting the option 'Safe Remove' or from USB menu at top bar and selecting Releasedevice name.
